Long Beach students celebrate on prom night

Friends and family joined a large group of Long Beach High School seniors in Lido Beach on June 23 for a pre-prom gathering before the students celebrated at Chateau Briand in Carle Place.

More than 50 people gathered at the home of Chris and Phaedra Chernoff, where parents, grandparents and siblings snapped hundreds of photos of the prom-goers.

“It was bittersweet,” graduating senior Carly Chernoff said. “It was like one last hoorah with all of your friends before we all go our separate ways.”

After the pictures were taken, the students headed over to Chateau Briand for their prom night that consisted of food, fun, dancing and laughs.

“Everything about it was fun,” Chernoff said of the event. “I love to dance, so once the dance floor opened and we were all able to dance, it proved to be my favorite part of the night.”

Chernoff will be attending Penn State University in the fall, where she will major in communications. Although she won’t be around the classmates she was familiar with for most of her life, she said she is optimistic about what lies ahead.

“I’m going to miss high school because it’s easier than college and I’m going to miss my friends,” Chernoff said. “However, I’m excited to leave because there’s so many new opportunities and a new sense of freedom when it comes to being away at college.”
