Lynbrook Post Office to process passports

Lynbrook Postmaster Pete Daniels announced the grand opening of the Lynbrook Passport Office this week, located at 100 Broadway.

The office will be strictly dedicated to processing passports and offer weekend and late hours for customer convenience.

According to World Tourism Organization, 20 million American tourists journeyed abroad through the first four months of 2015, a 7 percent increase over that period last year — and the Lynbrook Post Office wants to help travelers prepare for such future excursions.

Next year, New York licenses may not be accepted as valid ID to board domestic flights within the United States. A passport is another form of ID that is accepted for flight boarding. The Lynbrook Passport Office makes it easy to get started on getting your passport by being open the following hours:

Monday & Tuesday - Closed

Wednesday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday – 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Postal Service offers the following passport and international travel tips:

Check the expiration date of your passport well in advance of your departure date. Some countries may not permit you to enter if your passport will expire in six months or less.

U.S. passports are issued to adults for 10 years and children under the age of 16, for five years.

Passport forms can be filled out online and printed from http://travel.state.gov or obtained at your local Passport Application Acceptance Facility like (City) Post Office.

Before traveling abroad, copy the identification page in case your passport is lost or stolen. Report the loss immediately to local police authorities and the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Fill out the application (DS11), before you come to the post office, but don’t sign it.

Bring proof of US citizenship (provide one of the following)

Previous fully valid U.S. Passport

Certified U.S. birth certificate

Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth

Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship

Proof of identity (Current, valid driver’s license – Government employee ID – Military ID)

Lynbrook postal officials can take the photographs for a $15 fee per person.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
