Lynbrook crash leaves two dead

The Lynbrook Police Department’s Homicde Squad is investigating a Monday night crash on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook that left two dead.

Police said that John A. Aniano, 25, of Lynbrook, was driving his 2004 Mercedes Benz west on Sunrise Highway when he rear-ended a 2005 Toyota while driving at a high rate of speed.

The 2005 Toyota, driven by John Jones, 54, and carrying Sharon Rene Long, 53, both of Lynbrook, was knocked into the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, where it was hit on the driver’s side by a 2007 Toyota, eventually coming to rest on Atlantic Avenue.

Long was pronounced dead at the scene by a LFD medical technician, while Jones was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital by the Lynbrook Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician.

The 65-year old male driver of the 2007 Toyota was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Aniano was transported by ambulance to South Nassau and is being treated for leg injuries. He was also observed to be under the influence of drugs, and two prescription bottles were recovered from his car, according to police. He has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in the second degree, two counts of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and DWAI Combined Influence.

Police said he would be arraigned as soon as it is medically practical to do so.
