Lynbrook lacrosse standout headed to Syracuse

A Lynbrook High School lacrosse player has committed to play college lacrosse at Syracuse University, becoming the second in her family to represent the Owls in Division I lacrosse competition.

Molly Carter, 16, a sophomore left side attacker for the Owls, committed to the upstate university in September. She plans to join the Orange in 2017, and hopes to continue the team’s current success, as the Orange currently stand as the #6 team in the nation according to a poll of opposing Division I coaches.

“They are a really great program and I’m really glad to be a part of it, and I think they can have a lot of success while I’m there.” Carter said. She chose to head upstate over scholarship offers from other top-notch programs such as the University of Notre Dame, Penn State, and the University of Virginia due in large part to the commitment of Syracuse’s coaches and administrators.

“The big difference maker for me was the way Syracuse takes cares of its players and its athletes,” she said. “They just recently invested in all new locker rooms, weight lifting and training equipment. They also have a really great coaching staff who’s really committed to the success of their players.”

When Carter makes her debut for the Orange, she will become the second in her family to take the field at a Division I school. Her sister, Kacey, is currently a junior at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, and was a News 12 Scholar Athlete in her senior year at Lynbrook High School.

Bill Carter, the girls’ father, said lacrosse was a family affair during the pair’s childhood.

“Both of them, pretty much from the time they could walk, maybe even earlier than that, they had a lacrosse stick in their hands,” he said. “We started them in kids leagues and camps when they were about four or five years-old, and the sport has been with them both ever since.”

Bill also said that Molly learned a lot from her older sister, who also captained the Owls’ cross-country team and held the school record in the 5K
