A car hit a man during rush hour last Friday afternoon as he walked across Sunrise Highway at Merrick Avenue, according to the Nassau County Police Department. An ambulance rushed the man to a local hospital, which admitted him in “serious condition.”

The pedestrian, 48, was crossing Sunrise from north to south when a 2011 Honda Civic, turning left from Merrick Avenue onto Sunrise, struck him, police reported. The driver, a 49-year-old man, stayed at the scene, according to officials, who impounded the car for brake and safety checks. They do not suspect criminality.

Police did not identify either of the two men involved in the crash.
