Mepham High classes battle for a good cause

Posted

Mepham High School students came ready for an evening of good-natured competition at the sixth annual Battle of the Classes at the Brookside School on Nov. 12.

The competition served as a fundraiser for Autism Speaks, which is the school’s Participation in Government senior service learning project this fall. The contest included a volleyball game, dance competition and intense relays. Social studies teacher Stu Stein kept the crowd entertained as the host.

The senior class took first place in the competition, followed by the sophomores, juniors and freshmen. Seniors Kevin Burns, Yianni Hilas, Jaimie Kaefer and Sal Monello spoke about the work of the senior class with Autism Speaks and why the cause is so important.

The event generated more than $3,700 for Autism Speaks, which, combined with the efforts of the seniors to date, brought the fund-raising total to $6,770.
