Merrick Fall Fest delights thousands

Posted

At 12:30 p.m. last Sunday, Valerie Sanzone, a trainer and instructor at Synergy Fitness in Merrick, leapt out of the crowd that had gathered in front of the Town of Hempstead’s Showmobile, parked near Merrick and Loines avenues. Dressed in black tights and a white tank top with a pink ribbon and the words “Join the Fight” across the front, she danced rhythmically.

From behind her, people, most donning hot-pink T-shirts, joined in, two by two, moving to and fro with choreographed precision. Within minutes, a flash mob of dancers filled the street, smiling as they whirled about. And, before you knew it, it was over.

So went the annual Merrick Fall Festival, sponsored last weekend by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce. The event was full of surprises and old-fashioned fun and games to delight the thousands of fair-goers who attended.

The fair, which had a little something for everyone, from fair food to a petting zoo and plenty of vendors from which to shop, ran from Sept. 25 to 27. And the Herald Life was there to catch the action.

From all of us at the paper, thank you to the many Merokeans who stopped by our booth to say “hi” and pick up a paper. See you next year!
