Merrick tennis phenom hits with Obama

Merrick tennis phenom Noah Rubin, a freshman at Wake Forest who is tearing up the college tennis scene, recently had the opportunity to hit with President Barack Obama at the 137th annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House.

Rubin was one of a handful of United States Tennis Association representatives who came to show support for the Youth Tennis and Let’s Move! initiatives.

Rubin, who made Atlantic Coast Conference history this spring by being named both the ACC’s Freshman Player of the Year and Player of the Year, was one of only two tennis stars to hit with the president. The other was Caroline Wozniacki, the world’s fifth-ranked women’s player. Last year Rubin won the Junior Wimbledon title before Wake Forest recruited him.

In 22 matches with the No. 11-ranked Wake Forest this season, Rubin went 19-3, with 18 of his wins coming at the No. 1 singles spot, according to WF’s website.

“It was a great experience getting to hit a few balls with the most important man in the country on his own personal court,” Rubin said.

Other notable tennis figures at the event were USTA Chairman of the Board, CEO and President Katrina Adams and three-time Paralympic gold medalist David Wagner.
