Santos Floral Designs, at 124-128 East Park Avenue, piled sanbags in front of their business. The city gave out 20,000 sandbags to residents and depleted its supply.

"As we continue to monitor the developments surrounding the storm, we expect to suffer widespread flooding in low-lying areas," Schnirman said on the city's website. "We urge residents in areas that typically flood during extreme weather events to secure their homes and consider contacting family and friends north of Sunrise Highway to stay with until Hurricane Sandy has passed."
