New president for Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association

Groups seeks fresh faces as it reorganizes

Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association President Jaime Wysocki will step down at the end of her two-year term next month, and the current 1st vice president, David Friedman, is expected to take the reins of the organization that was created in a merger of the Hewlett Business Association and the Woodmere Merchants Association in 2012.
Wysocki, an Oceanside resident who owns Dance Express on Broadway in Woodmere, said she would remain an active board member, but is stepping aside to spend more time with her family — her husband, Manny Azcona, and daughters Lina, 4, and newborn Brooklyn Rose.
“What I’m most proud of is the Arts Below Sunrise street fair and having the [Hewlett-Woodmere] Memorial Day parade again,” Wysocki said of her time as president. She endorsed Friedman for the post, saying that the Hewlett resident frequents local stores daily.
The HWBA’s current projects include a cleanup of Veterans Plaza at the triangle that was once the site of a Burger King — new franchisees signed a lease for the site, at Mill Road and Peninsula Boulevard, by the Peninsula Shopping Center, two months ago, Friedman said — and the installation of a Christmas tree and a menorah there for the holiday season. Wysocki and Friedman said that the organization has approached the county about using the site, and contacted PSEG Long Island to ensure that power is available. The association will again promote a store holiday decorating contest.
Friedman, a lifelong Five Towns resident, is president of the 30-year-old DBF Collection Corp, a collection agency that works with high-end real estate companies in Manhattan, he said. He has chaired the HWBA’s advertising and publicity committee, helpes sponsors the school district's Kids Night at Hewlett High School through the business association, been involved in the growth of Arts Below Sunrise and the revitalization of the Memorial Day Parade, and has managed the organization for the past few months in Wysocki’s absence.
