Oceanside is losing businesses

On Feb. 11, the Town of Hempstead Zoning Board of Appeals will hear a request from Crown Acquisitions for a variance in off-street parking at the site of Mitchell’s Diner in Oceanside. The plans call for the demolition of the diner, at 2756 Long Beach Road, and the construction of a bank in its place.

The Gulf gas station at 2962 Long Beach Road, at the corner of Atlantic Avenue, is boarded up.

Across the street, in the Great Lincoln Shopping Center on Atlantic Avenue, Steinberg’s kosher bakery is also boarded up, a victim of increased rent. Sources say the business is looking to relocate in Long Beach.
