Queens men arrested for attempted burglary in Point Lookout

Police say resident observed suspects flee after trying to enter his home

Nassau County police arrested two Queens men on burglary charges Wednesday, after they allegedly attempted to break into a house in Point Lookout while a resident was in the home.

According to police, the incident occurred on Aug. 27 at 5:20 p.m., when a 27-year-old Lido Boulevard resident’s doorbell rang. The resident, whose name was not released, went to the door but no one was there.

Police said that he went back into his house, and that’s when the man heard a screen break and realized someone was attempting to enter a side window.

The resident observed one of the suspects walk toward the front of the home, and enter a black Range Rover with another man, police said. The pair fled westbound on Lido Boulevard.

The victim called police, and responding officers stopped the SUV. After an investigation, police arrested Wilmer Barona, 25, of College Point and Jonathan Cordoba, 27, of Flushing, Both were arrested without incident, police said.

Both men were charged with second-degree attempted burglary. Additionally, Barona was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Both were scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
