Remembering Al Jolson

There is a reason a city block on Broadway has been re-named “Al Jolson Way.” A permanent fixture in the lives of his fans, a celebration of Jolson’s talents is an honored tradition. “We’re not here to convert you to become a Jolson fan, we are here for those who are already Jolson fans,” says Hernstat, who notes that being a member of the Society is not necessary to attend. “If you have been putting if off, this is the year to come!”

“Jolson should not be forgotten,” exclaims Franklin. “He was very humble and had great humility. If he knew the Society was having this he would say, ‘do it!’ but he’d be embarrassed, while down in his heart he’d be very honored and thrilled.”
