Rockville Centre Fire Department puts out car fire

The Lynbrook and Rockville Centre fire departments teamed up on Sunday, June 26 at about 7:15 p.m. to extinguish a car fire on Merrick Road at the Lynbrook/Rockville Centre border.

Both fire departments were called to the scene. The driver escaped his Jeep, leaving it in the roadway when the engine went on fire. No one was injured and the fire was quickly extinguished. Traffic heading west on Merrick from Sunrise Highway was backed up for more than 45 minutes.
