Rockville Centre letters to the editor

Support school budget

To the Editor:

This Tuesday is voting day for our school budget. The members of our school PTAs have voted overwhelmingly to support the 2013-14 budget and we urge residents to get out and vote.

For the second year in a row, the members of our Board of Education and all the employees of the Rockville Centre School District have worked diligently to preserve the existing academic and extracurricular programming while maintaining a budget within the tax cap limits. In an era of sharply rising spending mandates without offsetting aid, this is a big accomplishment.

However, for this budget to pass, we need everyone to get out and vote! Polling takes place at South Side High School from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Please take a moment out of your day to vote “yes” and support the budget to:

- continue the academic excellence our community expects;

- preserve the programming that could be at risk if a contingency plan is in effect;

-invest in our community and our children.

Let’s work together as a community to support our children. Please join us in voting “yes” on Tuesday at South Side High School.

Karen Bohn and Karen Parker

Co-presidents, RVC Council of PTA’s

Rubino for Board of Education

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Lynda Rubino for Rockville Centre Board of Education.

For 15 years, Lynda has shown her commitment to the community through tireless service on school boards, finance committees and various volunteer organizations. But just as importantly, Lynda has the solid financial background as a CPA needed to make a difference.

I am certain her fairness and expert background on accounting matters with school boards will be exactly what Rockville Centre now needs in order to balance the important task of educating our children with a real-world sense of fiscal responsibility.

RVC has pretty junky schools, no IPAD program, no real program for gifted kids etc. The majority of that budget is going towards, teachers salaries, pensions, medical, step increases, insurance costs, fuel etc.

Yet the PTA expects you to believe the lies it is for the kids. It is to pay the rich teachers benefits and even worse most of the money is going towards adminstrators and retiree benefits not even your kids teacher.

Vote No against this budget. The PTA should have allowed a representative of folks in RVC with no kids in school district to also comment.

Funny how the vote is on a school day when are parking spots are filled by parents and teachers so the folks with no kids who want to vote cant get a spot. Funny how no internet or write in votes so the elderly can vote.

The above post has some merit-The elderly are not considered except by Ms. Rubino and by the senior Bill Victor (myself) who is running against two incumbents who do not even return phone calls when citizens have suggestions or questions and they have OKd a salary of over $127,000 including an increase but not including perks for a Director of a small backward in technology library serving a small community -and closing Sundays after the summer in order to pay an inflated Director;'s salary and a very non transparent library government. I suggest you vote for change with Bill Victor (that is me aka William Victor on the ballot) who is first on your ballot in today's election, a lifetime resident who has practiced law in NY and other states to help taxpayers and all clients( young and old ) with consideration fairly for their economic means in NY and federal jurisdictions as lawyer , teacher , professor and part time arbitrator for decades. In any event the only way you can effect betterment and change is to vote today at the South Side High School before the poll closes at 9PM. The first step is having read this post for which I thank you. Bill Victor
