Southern State closures at Peninsula Boulevard

Posted

On Sunday through Thursday for the next week and then intermittently as needed for about eight weeks, the Southern State Parkway in the area of Exit 19, Peninsula Boulevard a single eastbound lane could be closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. and a single westbound lane could be closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The roadwork focuses on extending the Peninsula Boulevard entrance ramps. Approximately 166,000 motorists use this portion of the parkway daily.

Officials said that the construction schedule depends on the weather and could be canceled, postponed or prolonged. Motorists will be warned in advance of the closings by the overhead electronic road signs, but should plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays.

Drivers are reminded of the Move-Over law that now includes all hazard vehicles with amber lights such as tow trucks and construction vehicles. Violators face moving violation fines and points on their driver’s license. Motorists should also know that fines are doubles for speeding in a work zone.
