Stew Leonard’s to fill old Pathmark location?

A report on Tuesday by the Long Island Business News said Stew Leonard’s, a dairy and grocery store, is planning to open an East Meadow location in the abandoned building that formerly held a Pathmark, on the corner of East Meadow Avenue and Front Street.

Pathmark closed in May of 2013, and since then, no tenants have occupied the 70,000 square-foot space, at 1897 Front St. The abandoned building and empty parking lot, residents have often complained, has become an eyesore in the popular business district.

Stew Leonard’s had recently announced its intention to open a Farmingdale location in early 2016, and LIBN said “industry sources” informed them of the company’s intention to build a full-sized location in East Meadow.

Stew Leonard’s has wine stores in Long Island, in Carle Place and the Airport Plaza in East Farmingdale, and operates four full-sized locations — three in Connecticut and one in Yonkers.
