Lincoln Orens Middle School students and faculty recently joined forces for a school-wide participation in National Red Ribbon Week, created to increase public awareness of drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. It is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness effort, with more than 100,000 schools and organizations participating. The Lincoln Orens Middle School Red Ribbon Week Committee created activities to promote commitment to a drug-free, alcohol-free, violence-free and smoke-free community. This year’s theme was “Love Yourself, Be Drug Free.” The week-long program culminated with students and staff donning red shirts and forming a giant red ribbon while holding their hands in the shape of a heart.
