Take ‘Into the Woods’ home!

Posted

When Rob Marshall, one of the producers of the exquisite film version of the Tony and Golden Gloves nominated “Into the Woods” heard an address commemorating 911 that emphasized we must all remember “we are not alone” in facing life-changing challenges, he was immediately drawn to that line from Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 Awards Winning Broadway Musical “Into the Woods.”
While you can follow the fascinating gestation of the late 1914 Disney film on the Internet (see Wikipedia),the current great news is you can now bring “Into the Woods” home on Tuesday, March 24. Disney debuted the HD/SD, Blu-ray combo pack, Disney movies anywhere DVD and On Demand versions, including a never before seen original song, “She’ll Be Back” performed by the film’s iconic witch Meryl Streep, star of the 2014 film.
The bonus’s included in the new releases also include a journey into the mysterious forest to see how the woods were brought to life, and what they meant to the story; opening new vistas to home viewers everywhere. You will also get to meet star members of the cast and learn their take on what the Broadway classic means to them. And in four segments you will be able, via DVD, to follow the development of “From Stage to Screen,” “Magic of the Woods,” “Designing the Woods” and “Costumes of the Woods.” Surely a glorious adventure in itself. Finally, there is access to song segments from the film — and a surprise bonus gift — that might turn out to be 5 Golden Easter Eggs — or a like treat!
The new “Into the Woods” products were introduced at a gala 85th birthday celebration tribute for Stephen Sondheim this on March 22 at New York’s toney 42 West. The electric event included Red Carpet conversations with stars of the current film and past Sondheim musicals, and was followed by a Cabaret performance of music from “Into the Woods.” The latter had dazzled guests cheering nonstop — and a love fest reunion among the throng of performers who had worked together in Sondheim musicals — sometimes decades ago.
