Calhoun celebrates Thanksgiving with the community

Calhoun High School kicked off the holiday season by hosting its annual Thanksgiving dinner filled with turkeys, desserts and music. Staff members, students and parents enjoyed a holiday meal together on Friday, Nov. 20, raising more than $2,000 in donations.

National Honor Society students served 16 turkeys and many different sides throughout the evening. The cafeteria staff was busy throughout the event, feeding hundreds of guests. During dinner, music was provided by Express Yourself, members of the On Tour Company and several other students, and there was a special magic show featuring Patrick Claire.

“The outpouring of food, donations and love on this night is something so unique; it is truly a labor of love for all those involved,” Principal Nicole Hollings told parents. “The entertainment for the evening literally made me so full of love that all I could do was say how blessed I am to be around these kids every day.”

This year’s Thanksgiving dinner was another success story for Calhoun, thanks to the cafeteria staff; members of the culinary club, who helped set up activities for children; all custodians, who helped clean up afterward; Calhoun’s social worker, Cathryn Brucculeri, who organized raffles and gathered donations from the community; and students and parents.
