Blizzard 2015

Blizzard hits Seaford and Wantagh

Posted

The first major snowstorm of 2015 is here. Snow has been falling steadily all day in Wantagh and Seaford and once it is over by Tuesday afternoon, there could be anywhere from two to three feet on the ground. With high winds, snow drifts exceeding that height are likely.

Despite the unprecendented snow storm, local residents are taking it in good stride, with many families planning to spend the day together on Tuesday with all local schools closed, and many businesses shutting down as well.

"I like the snow, I was looking forward to it," said Justine LaVolpe, of Seaford, who planned to spend Tuesday with her two elementary-age daughters.

Donna Irwin, also of Seaford, said her son, James, 17, planned to go out and shovel and perhaps make a little money, which her 7-year-old daughter, Olivia, was planning on going to Cedar Creek Park to sled, or go ice skating.

Both Irwin and DeVolpe said they were prepared for the storm, hitting the stores ahead of time for the essentials. Their big hope is that their power stays on for the duration of the storm. The winter storm warning doesn't end until midnight Wednesday.
