Treasure old and new at Seaford Museum

Historical artifacts provided the backdrop for Paint Night at the Museum, hosted by the Seaford Historical Society last Friday night. The class was led by Seaford’s own master artist, Cliff Miller.

The Seaford Historical Museum has been abuzz this month. Eddie Costello’s “Trash or Treasure? Antiques Roadshow” came to Seaford on April 7. The Seaford Historical Society welcomed back the certified appraiser, who has been popular with local crowds before.

About 40 people attended to hear Costello speak about collectibles at the museum. He also took questions from the audience before appraising items. A woman brought a scooter that she found in her attic, and Costello said it was from the 1920s and worth $900. A quilt was valued at $12,000.

Other items included rings, books, a Long Island Rail Road pocket watch, a Steueben glass trophy from an auto race, and an Italian ornate chair. Costello appraised several items in the Historical Society’s collection.

“Everyone brought interesting things and we all learned a lot,” Historical Society President Judy Bongiovi said. “It was very interesting.”

On April 15, about 20 aspiring artists gathered at the museum for Paint Night. Participants received instruction from Seaford’s own master artist, Cliff Miller, who is known for painting many murals around the community including one that is nearing completion in the museum.
