U.S. Marine Band plays at Mepham

The U.S. Marine Band, America’s premier military band and oldest musical organization, stopped during its fall tour at Mepham High School for a performance of patriotic hymns and marches.
Years of requests by Brian Neiderman, band director at Mepham and a Marine veteran, paid off on Nov. 12, when the ensemble visited the school. Though the Marine Band plays about 500 shows per year, it receives twice as many requests for performances, according to a Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District press release.
Hundreds of Mepham students, teachers and staff filled the school’s auditorium for the show. Neiderman took a turn at the baton and also played trumpet with the band.
