The Raimondos praised the attention their family has received from their son’s doctors. They will host a benefit for the Brain Tumor Biotech Center at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, which Boockvar co-directs. The event will be held at the American Legion Michael A. Rawley Junior Post, at 193 9th St., Brooklyn, on May 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is $40 per person and covers food and drinks. The family, who moved from Park Slope to Valley Stream 13 years ago, is also accepting gift basket donations.

Monetary donations can be made by check, payable to the Northwell Health Foundation and annotated for the biotech center. Donations can also be mailed to Robin Ross, senior director of development at Northwell Health Foundation, 125 Community Dr., Manhasset 11030. To donate for the event, email Marianne at marianneg3215@aol.com or ladydi69126@gmail.com.

“One day at a time,” Anthony Raimondo said of his family’s management of the crisis. Theresa said their son is keeping a positive attitude. He was training to work with explosives when he was diagnosed, and he wants to return to the Navy and resume his career track. His girlfriend has remained steadfastly supportive throughout the ordeal and has become “part of the family,” Anthony said.

Raimondo sounded upbeat over the phone. Asked how he was feeling, he chuckled. “Not too bad right now,” he said.
