The Valley Stream Little League senior girls softball team won the District 29, Section 5 New York State Softball Championship this summer, earning VSLL its first softball title in nine years.

The team advanced to District 29 after winning a game in Queens, and traveled to Staten Island WHEN for the start of a three-game series against East Shore Little League. The girls won that series, earning them the first Section 5 title in VSLL history, according to Steve Dignam, the club’s vice president.

The team was eliminated in the state tournament on July 19 in Haverstraw after facing competition from teams traveling from as far as Buffalo. They were defeated by Ellenville Little League.

“Players, parents and coaches had an incredible weekend upstate and were treated like the champs they are,” Dignam said.
