The Valley Stream Aquatic Club’s annual water show was cut short on Aug. 13 at the village pool due to inclement weather, but resumed the following morning to the delight of some 200 onlookers.

“Although it was hot, they got through the show,” said parent Michelle Chamblin. “They did a good job under the circumstances.”

About half the show was completed before thunder and lighting forced officials to close the pool.

“There was a really good turnout,” Chamblin said. “A good amount of people came out the next morning.” The girls register at the beginning of the summer, she said, and the coaches teach them an elaborate synchronized swimming routine over a six-week period. The show featured music from different regions and cultures of the world this year.

“It’s not competitive,” she said. “It’s not a competition, it’s a show."

“I think the Valley Stream pool is probably the best pool on Long Island,” she said. “These girls look forward to seeing each other they work together and it’s really something that brings the community together.”
