The Arts Council at Freeport held a reception on Nov. 4 to commemorate the late Alexandra Marinaccio’s artwork at the Freeport Memorial Library. The retrospective exhibit of Marinaccio’s artwork will be on display in the library’s lobby Nov. 29.

Her husband, Bill Marinaccio attended the reception. For Bill, being at the reception was an emotional ordeal that brought on a lifetime of memories of his late wife as he tenderly looked at her work on the wall. According to Bill, it’s been slightly over a year since Alexandra’s passing. She died of cervical cancer.

Bill says he was so surprised when the Arts Council informed him they would honor Alexandra. “I’m so honored to be here,”he said. “I wish she would have been here to see this, but I’m sure she’s looking at it from above.”

Marinaccio was a retired Freeport Schools teacher who worked effortlessly to improving life in Freeport. Known internationally as an artist who worked in pastels, acrylics, and watercolors, Marinaccio’s work afforded her memberships in many prestigious and art organizations. Her work is also celebrated in private collections.

“She did a lot of artwork,” Bill said. “She used natural light to work on art. It was exhilarating to me to see her be successful at what she was doing. She’s won so many awards and had people come from far and wide wanting to buy her work.”
