New York State Troopers closed the Southern State Parkway’s westbound entrance at Exit 17 on July 26 after bags containing a "foul smell" were discovered by Department of Transportation workers.

The bags, left on the parkway's entrance ramp, were determined to contain animal parts, a source said. What kind of animal and how many are unknown.

Phone calls to the state police went unanswered.
