An 18-year-old bicyclist was hit by a car while he was crossing West Valley Stream Boulevard and Hicks Lane in Valley Stream on Sunday at 2:45 p.m.

According to Nassau County police, the victim was entering the eastbound lane when he collided with a woman driving a 2017 Ford Fusion that was travelling eastbound on West Valley Stream Road. Neither the driver nor her two children, ages 4 and 1, were injured. The children were secured in the back seat.

The bicyclist was sent flying to the southeast corner of West Valley Stream Road, where he collided with a pole. Nassau County police transported him to a local hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition. The victim sustained serious head, leg and arm injuries.

Detectives said they do not suspect that the driver had any criminal intent and that a brake and safety inspection of the car that was performed at the scene yielded adequate results.
