The Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival, set for Aug. 18 and 19 at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, has made its mark for amalgamating a lineup of rising, indie acts and chart-topping pop sensations. Now in its fourth year, the festival features acts like Future, Daya and Halsey among alternative breakouts like lovelytheband, genre-bending rappers like Wicca Phase Springs Eternal and rock bands like Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness.

“It’s become a staple for people in the area,” said Joe Kelly, Executive Director Of Artist Relations, adding that the festival sold out for the first time last year. “Kids from Long Island come back from camps and activities to end their summer with us.”

Kelly curated this year’s lineup and said he wanted to continue the festival’s tradition of booking artists on the verge of stardom. This led him to bring back Halsey, who played at the first festival in 2015, and add to the lineup rising pop star Kim Petras and Manhattan-based rock group The Knocks.

This year’s festival also comes the weekend before the MTV Video Music Awards, which is on Aug. 20, and regulars of the Hot 100 fest have come to expect a number of surprise collaborations during illustrious headlining sets.

“I’ve heard some rumors myself,” Kelly said, “I’m sure there are gonna be a lot of artists in town looking to do something this weekend.”

Camila Cabello and J. Balvin dazzled the crowd last year when Major Lazer, the trio of DJs known for their reggae-infused electronica, closed the festival on Aug. 20 with a bass-heavy set.

Last year, fans could also see underground or independent artists on an intimate stage Kelly likened to venues in Brooklyn. However, because of the tight spacing and sound-bleeding issues, the festival will return to a three-stage format with all acts being spread throughout the Beach Stage, Sun Stage and Hot 100 Main Stage.
