Firefighters rushed to the Loop Parkway after a motorcycle reportedly colliding with a Ford Edge causing a massive fire.

Fire officials said the incident happened on the overpass by the Loop and Meadowbrook parkways at 11:37 a.m. on Sunday.

“The motorcycle may have been going too fast when it hit the back of the vehicle,” Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department Chief Jared Siegelman said. He added that the traffic was backed up for hours from the bridge and that both cars were totaled.

According to Siegelman, the driver of the motorcycle and an occupant in the SUV were seriously injured. Both were transported to an area hospital by a Nassau County Police Department ambulance. No further details on their conditions was immediately available, Siegelman said.

The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department, with the assistance of the Merrick Fire Department, Nassau County Police Department and New York State Troopers, were on the scene to put out the fire.

The parkway was reopened around 2 p.m.
