A Hempstead man was arrested last week for selling heroin that police said led to the overdose death of a Long Beach resident.

According to the Long Beach Police Department and detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Narcotics Vice Squad, 40-year-old Markee Reeder was observed by police at various times in February and March selling heroin.

Police also said that Reeder was involved in a heroin sale that resulted in the fatal overdose of a 41-year-old Long Beach man, who police did not identify. No charges were filed against Reeder in connection with the man's death.

On March 11, Long Beach detectives said they observed Reeder in the rear passenger seat of a 2014 Nissan Sentra traveling on East Broadway and Riverside Boulevard at 7 p.m.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested Reeder without incident. According to police, Reeder was holding a Greyhound bus ticket to Florida dated March 12.

Reeder was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned on March 12 at First District Court in Hempstead.
