Baldwinite Raphael Oyague on Friday was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for bludgeoning a woman to death with a hammer following an argument over payment for sex in November 2016, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced in a press release.

“Raphael Oyague violently and senselessly beat a 24-year old woman he just met to death with a hammer,” Singas said in a statement. “Today’s sentence ensures that this callous defendant will be behind bars for decades to come.”

Two delivery workers discovered the woman’s body in the parking lot behind 2417 Grand Ave. at 12:40 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2016. Nassau cops investigating the scene tracked a trail of blood from where the body was found to the back door of Oyague’s apartment at the same address. He was found covered in blood.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Deeana Wingender, of Syosset. According to police, the two met through Craigslist and Oyague sent a car for her. They got into an argument over payment for sex before the Baldwinite repeatedly struck Wingender with a hammer multiple times on her head and torso. Police noted Oyague’s apartment was within 100 feet of where the victim was found.

Oyague pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on May 10.
