Drawbridge testing to cause delays on Loop and Meadowbrook parkways

Posted

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that drawbridge testing will cause delays on the Loop Parkway and Meadowbrook State Parkway this week.

Intermittent bridge openings will take place on the Loop Parkway drawbridge over Long Creek and the Meadowbrook State Parkway drawbridge over Sloop Channel this week beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 29 during the off-peak hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bridge will be opened for periods of 10-15 minutes and then closed for another 10-15 minutes. The bridge will not reopen until traffic has cleared.

Crews will begin testing with the Loop Parkway first and conclude with the Meadowbrook Parkway. They will be testing the bridge operation and electric systems as the completion of the $22.5 million strengthening and enhancing project nears for the two 85-year-old bascule bridges.

As with most road and bridge projects, work may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. For up-to-date travel information, call 511, visit www.511NY.org or download the free 511NY app.
