Long-time Elmont resident Mike Saudo was identified as the victim of a fatal car accident that took place on Feb. 17. According to the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Saudo was attempting to make a left into Meacham Avenue from B Street when a drunk driver heading southbound on Meacham crashed into him.

Relatives said Saudo had spent most of his live in his beloved Elmont, where he was an avid Yankees fan and played baseball with his children and grandkids. During the 1970s and 80s, Saudo had joined the Elmont Fire Department, eventually serving as a captain during his 15 years there. He was later assigned to the Rescue Squad and also served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician.

“He was personable, funny, caring and well-liked,” Saudo’s daughter, Lisa Pfeifer said. “This is a senseless tragedy that has us all devastated and shocked.”

Saudo is survived by his three daughters, Lisa, Cindy Victoria and Tina Kleinfeldt; ex-wife Rita, brother Joe and long time girlfriend Erin Reynolds.

A GoFundMe page was started to help pay for Saudo’s funeral, which reached its $8,000 goal in less than 10 days. His family held the funeral at the Krauss Funeral Home on Feb. 22, in Franklin Square, with a mass held at the St. Catherine of Sienna Church.
