Fire knocked down at Bellmore restaurant on Sunrise Highway

The Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh and East Meadow Fire Departments responded to a fire at Churrasqueira Carvalhos Rodizio Restaurant in Bellmore on Sunrise Highway and Bedford Avenue.

The building was evacuated after the fire was reported at around 2 p.m. Officers on the scene confirmed that there were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Firefighters could be seen at the top of the building attempting to get access to an exterior vent. These vents, firefighters said, can have a build-up of grease and other fire-hazardous materials from cooking, at times causing fires.

Officers closed off the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway between Centre and Bedford Avenues while the scene progressed.

The cause of the fire will be updated as more information is released.
