Posted

Freeporter Norman Easy, was a 57-year old retired and decorated veteran who served two tours of duty in Iraq, died tragically on a business trip to China on Dec. 7. Following Easy’s death, the family disputed with the Chinese government to send his body home and they finally did receive the body on Dec. 30.

On Christmas Eve, also Easy’s 58th birthday, Freeport village officials, including Lynbrook Deputy Mayor Hilary Becker and the President of the Freeport Chamber of Commerce came together to bring holiday cheer to the Easy family with Christmas tree to decorate, gifts for the children and a traditional Christmas dinner for friends and family members. Former New York Jets players also visited the family.

Efforts to contact the family were made, but Easy’s wife, Nitxia requested privacy as she planned her husband’s funeral and time to mourn the loss of her husband.

Easy will be honored with a military burial at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River on Jan. 4.
