Freezing temperatures cause water main to break in Valley Stream

About 30 Valley Stream residents did not have water Monday night after freezing temperatures caused a water main to break on the corner of Cornwell Avenue and East Dover Street. Water was restored early Tuesday morning.

According to Michael Kane, the field manager for New York American Water, crews have been working to repair several mains, including the 16-inch main that burst on Cornwell and Dover.

“About noon today, our crews came in again to finish the repair, which will interrupt water service for some of these customers for several hours today," Kane said in a statement Tuesday, "but we are working as quickly as possible to finish the repair and restore service. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience during this time.”

Crews have removed the broken part of the pipe, but still had to fit in a new piece of pipe. During the process, residents may experience fluctuations in water pressure.
