Greetings Lynbrook, East Rockaway readers

Posted

Greetings residents of East Rockaway and Lynbrook. My name is Justin Zion and I am interning for the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald this summer. As a new addition to the Herald, I would like to share a little bit about myself with our readers.

Although I was born in Brooklyn, I have lived in Nassau County nearly all my life. I grew up not too far away from Lynbrook and East Rockaway, in Woodmere, where I still live today. I will be entering my sophomore year at Binghamton University this August, where I plan to major in political science.

I have always been an avid writer, but until recently I had never wished to pursue journalism. I had always been interested in creative writing and thought that journalism and news were dull and grey by comparison.

That all changed when a spur-of-the-moment decision landed me at my college’s student newspaper. I decided to join the sports section and wrote for the paper for my entire freshman year. I wrote more than 20 stories over the course of the year, ranging from coverage of sporting events to athlete showcases and opinion pieces.

After a couple of months working at my school newspaper I realized that journalism was something I enjoyed, and something that I wished to pursue further, which is why I am interning with the Herald now.

While interning for the paper, I look forward to broadening the scope of my reporting beyond sports to all manners of stories. I look forward to exploring and learning more about my coverage area, and I look forward to meeting and interacting with you, the residents of Lynbrook and East Rockaway.
