Half mile of new water main due in Lakeview

Roughly a half-mile of water main is being replaced in Lakeview as part of a $370,000 investment in the community’s infrastructure, the New York American Water Company reported last week. The project began on July 19.

Six-inch water main, originally installed in the 1920s, will be replaced with eight-inch ductile iron main. About 40 utility-owned service lines and new six fire hydrants will also be installed.

This main replacement project will improve water quality and service reliability for residents and increase water flows for commercial use and firefighting, the company said in a written statement.

Langdon Boulevard, from Lakeview Avenue to Maine Avenue, will be the focus of the installation, as well as Maine Avenue, from Lawrence Avenue to Tanglewood Road — weather permitting. The project is estimated to take six weeks to complete, and is being done in coordination with the Town of Hempstead’s Road Construction Project.

 Sections of the aforementioned streets may be closed to traffic during weekday work hours — from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

"These water main improvements are part of New York American Water's multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life." stated John Kilpatrick, engineering manager, New York American Water.
