Honoring America’s heroes in Bellmore

Bellmore community members on Monday gathered for the annual Memorial Day parade and memorial service.

The parade stepped off at Newbridge Road Elementary School to Bellmore Avenue, before going west on Oak Street and south on Bedford Avenue to the Bellmore World War I monument beside the Long Island Rail Road station. There, a ceremony honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrafice took place.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2770, American Legion Post 1749, American Legion Post 948, the Vietnam War Veterans Association and marching bands from Kennedy and Mepham high schools, as well as Newbridge Road and Martin Avenue elementary schools participated.
