Robert DiPasquale, a graduate of Oceanside High School’s class of 2015, will offer a free piano performance and classical music lesson at the Oceanside Library on Sept. 28.

Beginning at 2 p.m., DiPasquale will play piano standards by composers such as Felix Mendelssohn, César Cui, Joseph Haydn, Claude Debussy and Frédéric Chopin. After each piece, he will explain some of the history and background behind it.

“The pieces are titles you see all around classical music,” he said, noting that after his lesson, attendees will “know what to expect” when they see certain titles.

Some of the pieces DiPasquale will perform include Mendelssohn’s “Prelude and Fugue in E Minor,” Haydn’s “Fantasia in C Major” and Chopin’s “Ballade No. 3 in A-Flat Major.”

In between pieces, DiPasquale will also open the floor to discussion and questions from audience members. The 23-year old has been playing piano since he was 6, and he graduated SUNY Fredonia with a bachelor’s degree in music performance in May. In high school, he played keyboard for a rock band and only gained an appreciation for classical music in college.

Now, he gives private lessons in piano and works at Music and Arts on Long Beach Road in Oceanside and Frank and Camille’s Piano Superstore in Carle Place.

“I’ve always had an interest in music,” DiPasquale said. “I wanted to share that passion and appreciation with others.”

DiPasquale added that he is excited to bring talents to Oceanside Library, “the center of the community,” for free.
