An Island Park man was arrested Thursday after allegedly threatening the clerk at a local convenience store and fleeing with cash.

William Yungandreas, 51, entered Classic Marketplace — at 275 Long Beach Road — holding a knife, according to Nassau County Police. He pointed it at the 55-year-old clerk and demanded cash. Yungandreas then removed an unknown amount of money from two cash registers, police said.

Officers responding to the scene arrested Yungandreas shortly afterward near his residence on Private Right of Way. He had a white powdery substance in his possession, police said, which they believed to be Roxicodone.

Police charged Yungandreas with first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is set to be arraigned on Saturday at the First District Court in Hempstead.
