The spree of knifepoint robberies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties continued Saturday night when an attempt was made on the Subway sandwich shop on Jerusalem Avenue in North Merrick.

According to police, a suspect described as 5-foot, 8 inches tall, of average build, wearing a dark hat, dark jacket, blue jeans and a gray scarf and gloves, entered the store around 7 p.m., brandishing a large kitchen knife.

The man demanded money from the register, but the employee — the only other person present in the store — pressed the panic alarm, and the supect fled, police said.

Just Wednesday, the Gamestop on Sunrise Highway in Merrick was also robbed at knifepoint as part of a pattern that has seen now more than a dozen incidents across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Anyone with information on this or related crimes is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800 244-TIPS.
