Laikin is new editor for Wantagh-Seaford Heralds

Posted

Hi, my name is Eden Laikin and I’ve just joined the editorial team at Richner Communications as the new editor of the Wantagh and Seaford Heralds.

I began my journalism career at Newsday where, over 21 years, I was part of two Pulitzer prize-winning reporting teams, one Pulitzer-nominated team and a co-recipient of the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting out of Southern California.

My last three years there were spent covering the Town of Hempstead and its many diverse communities. From there, I went to work in Nassau County government as Director of Government Research, and spent the bulk of eight years helping to combat the opioid epidemic.

Now I’m back in journalism, where some say I really belong, and it’s my first stint at a community newspaper. In just my first week here, I already learned that writing positive stories about local people doing good things is just as — if not more —important than writing stories exposing local people doing not-so-good, or corrupt, things. And it’s equally important to publish both stories.

So please feel free to send me accolades and commendations for the Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown people in your life, story ideas, as well as tips or concerns about people in the area you don’t necessarily think are doing the right thing. Send an email to elaikin@liherald.com or call me at (516) 569-4000 ext 351.
