Last minute shopping for Father's Day

On Saturday, the eve of Father's Day, Freeporters and people from neighboring communities, bustled to the busy mall on Sunrise Highway in Freeport, to shop for last minute Father’s day gifts.

“I’m celebrating both my father and my husband because they are loyal, and very good to the family,” said Freeport resident, Carol Pirillo, on Saturday, as she shopped for a Father’s day gift for her husband at Modell’s Sporting Goods. “My husband and my father would drop everything and do anything for us.”

Other local residents were seen milling in and out of the stores at Sunrise Highway Mall with the hope of finding a last minute gift for dad. Freeport resident, Griseli Aracena browsed the isles of a department store hoping to find gifts to surprise her dad on Father’s day.

“Father’s day is a time when you share with your dad, appreciate him and thank him for everything he has done,” said Aracena.

With a laugh, while looking to the right and left of her, Alan Goon looked for her nine-year-old son realizing he had disappeared.

“My son is supposed to be getting his father a gift for Father’s Day, but he’s too busy running around,” she said as she parted the clothing rack with her hand and looked for a pair of shorts for her husband.

A mother of five children, Goon says she appreciates Father’s day celebrations because she views her husband as a very supportive and active part of her children’s lives. On Father’s Day she hoped her family could get together for breakfast and dinner.

The day specialized in gifting tools and whacky designed ties for dad, is also a day families devote to celebrate their fathers. Though her father passed away, Freeporter, Rashunda Bol, says Father’s Day still means she can honor her stepfather who has been an active part of her life for fifteen years.

“I’m not really a holiday person because Father’s Day is just another day, but I do want to make sure that my stepfather is appreciated,” said Bol as she browsed the sneaker isle.
