Franklin Square youth attend Jr. Fire Camp

Five Franklin Square teens participated in Camp Fahrenheit 516, Nassau County's Jr. Fire Camp, in Bethpage, from July 24 - 28.

They learned different exercises such as ladder climbing, fighting fires, knot tying, and using awls and axes, practicing a variety of fire fighting methods.

This facility is the only one left in the country that uses real fuel-fed fire as opposed to controlled propane gas in their exercises. It is because of this reason that many come here to Long Island to  train from all over the country, including the United States military, in some cases.

This is the third year of the program, which, according to officials involved in its planning, has increased in enrollment and interest every year since its beginning.
