Long Beach officials to discuss Edwards Boulevard improvements

The city will hold a public meeting on Jan. 28 at City Hall to discuss major upgrades to Edwards Boulevard, part of a complete streets and resiliency initiative the city announced in 2015.
Long Beach was awarded $1.06 million in funding from the state Department of Transportation’s “Transportation Alternatives Program” in 2015 to transform Edwards Boulevard — a major roadway in the city — into a more pedestrian and bicycle friendly thoroughfare incorporating resiliency elements and green infrastructure.
The improvements on Edwards include a design to improve drainage and reduce flooding in the area, while also making the road safer for pedestrians and bicyclists — officials said the plan calls for bike lanes on Edwards — based on previous community input.
In Long Beach, where many residents and visitors use bikes, residents and bicycle safety advocates have called for the creation of adequate bike lanes and other measures throughout the city to protect cyclists and pedestrians.
The meeting takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the sixth floor of City Hall.
