Virtual Turkey Trot in Long Beach

Posted

Though the annual Long Beach Turkey Trot was canceled this year because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Rob Blau of the Long Beach Soup Kitchen has teamed up with Bill McDermott, an avid runner and resident, to create the Long Beach Virtual Turkey Trot.
“After canceling our annual fundraiser earlier this year, we need to rely on our active community for help,” Blau said. “The Long Beach Soup Kitchen, which includes all of our staff and volunteers, wishes the best of luck to the Long Beach Running (and walking) Community.”
A website was created for runners to register for a 10K or two-mile run. The event will take place from Tuesday, Nov. 17 till Friday, Nov. 27. For those who are looking to donate and can not participle in the run, a donation button can also be found on the website.
“This is an opportunity for everyone to have fun, get fit, and make a difference in the community,” McDermott said. “In honor of this organization, a new course has been created and named: “The Run of Champions”. Please consider helping them out as a Champion. And, if running’s not your thing, you can make a donation directly to the Long Beach Soup Kitchen…”
Organizers have also created Long Beach Virtual Turkey Trot sweatshirts, T-Shirts, gaiters and beach towels that can be purchased. All monies will benefit the Long Beach Soup Kitchen.
