Five years after Hurricane Sandy, hundreds of homeowners are still struggling to rebuild and elevate their homes.

An education seminar and clinic hosted by the city and Long Beach Community Organizations Active in Disasters at the Long Beach Public Library on Monday, Oct. 2, is aimed at assisting residents who are dealing with the reconstruction process, NY Rising, insurance, contractor fraud and other issues.

Topics include preparedness; insurance and the differences between them; understanding the role of design professionals; understanding the role of construction professionals; expectations during the construction process; and consumer affairs and fraud.

The presentation runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a two-hour Q&A session. The library is located at 111 West Park Ave.

The event is sponsored by Nassau County legislators Denise Ford, Laura Curran, James Kennedy, Howard Kopel and Steve Rhoads.
